To Our Valued Customers:
For over 50 years, Vincent & Tampa Cigar Company has been providing its customers with the finest quality cigars possible at an affordable price.
Ybor City, whose name is synonymous with quality cigars for nearly a century, has fought to keep its place in this troubled industry. Once known as the "Cigar Capital of the World" with over 200 factories making hand made cigars has been reduced to only a few that refuse to abandon its heritage.
Vincent Ruilova founded this company bearing his name in 1943. In its beginnings he employed over 50 cigar makers working two eight-hour shifts to produce over 100,000 quality cigars a week. Over the years the personal and financial sacrifices have been many.
Tragically, with the automation of cigar machines came the rapid decline of hand made cigars in Tampa. The American Trade Embargo with Cuba brought added problems to the already troubled industry. Like most factories in Tampa, Vincent depended almost totally on Cuban tobacco to produce his cigars. Overnight changes had to be made in order to continue, new blends of tobaccos had to be developed to replace the Cuban tobacco used. Contacts in Honduras, Santo Domingo and Ecuador had to be made to provide the needed wrappers, binder and long filler needed to slowly replace the limited inventory of Cuban tobacco. All factories both large and small began using machines to produce the cigars once made by hand to lower the operating cost and stay competitive. As early as 1983 Vincent & Tampa began its move to Honduras to produce some of its hand made cigars. As the industry has changed throughout the last 50 years we have changed as well in order to survive.
However, during these troubled times we have never compromised our obligations to our customers of providing a quality cigar at an affordable price. Our strong tradition of excellence has enabled this company to continue successfully in business when so many other factories had to close their doors forever.
As always, you can be sure that we will never compromise these standards and will continue to honor the commitment made to our customers over a half century ago.
